I have this coin attached that I have identified as Constantius II with mint TES Epsilon. Is It? Also, you can see that the top layer is trying to come off. If it does it will bring most of the detail with it. Should I try to clean it? Should I leave it as is? Or, should I conserve it as is with some Ren Wax? Thanks.

Leave it alone. Probably a Constans hut type.

Yes. I did find it listed in Hut. Do you think it would do damage to use Ren Wax to preserve it?

Not much is going to help that coin.

I understand. I only collect uncleaned and then get as close as I can to identification. Then preserve and protect. Let the kids and the grand kids share them one day. I was curious if Ren Wax may keep it from peeling any more. Thanks for all your help and advice.

If you are letting the kids play with your coins, it is unlikely that renwax will help conserve them! Let the kids enjoy them, althouht it might be nice if you had a couple in good condition that might pique their interest.

Kids are in their 50's and grandkids are in their 20's and 30's. The great grandkids are being taught to respect coins. We are expecting great grand kid # 20 in June. I have some very nice ancients. Each of the greats have their own family type set that works like a family tree. I hope they all learn well.

The coin is Constantius II, not Constans. You can see the N-T break in the obverse legend.

It is definitely damaged, but it appears stable. Anything you do to it, including Ren Wax, will probably make it look worse. Enjoy it and let the kids play with it.
