Would anyone happen to know what type of mark this is? Its a bit hard to get a good picture with my microscope and camra while this is in a ICG slab. I outlined the mark in the PICS. Its a pretty deep ingravment/dent that runs in complete coalition with the edge/outline of Liberty's head just above the bun in her hair. Is this a variety or error? Anyone know?

Patience my young friend. Many of the more knowledgeable forum members are employed, and unable to spend their day looking at CoinTalk.

I'll bet I'm not the only member who looked at your pictures, and didn't see anything worth commenting on. What I don't know about Peace Dollars has already filled a number of books, but all I'm seeing in your pictures are something that might be a deep scratch, or a tool mark, or a die problem, or something else; so I didn't really plan on making a substantive comment.

Sometimes it's a day or two before someown with something useful to say happense to see a particular post.

    Nathan,
Are you referring to the color, or the raised lines?

theres nothing raised other then what should be, Its a deep striking from the die that runs inline with the outline of her head. Im trying to find out if its a known flaw? I mean it passed the grading process and is marked ms64, but the guy that sent it in to ICG must not have listed its attributes. Again I have to say the pictures are really very hard to see it. Look in the circles, its right in there. You can sorta see how deep it is from the pic of the whole Obverse.

I drug out some of my peace dollars to see if there was anything there on mine. I don't have any good close ups pics so I stold one off of eBay.....

Are you talking about the depression there near her bun? Some of my coins have it, some don't.

That looks very much like the same hard pressed die..i have a bunch of these peace dollars and never noticed such a deep mark at the spot of the obverse.

I think that was normal on the Peace dies. Some coins are just struck harder than others and it shows more.

must be. I know that there was some issue with the 21 and 22 dies.
