I was surfing the internet the other day and came across the most beauitful 1930 Althingi 10 Kronur I have ever seen in my life and I must have seen or looked at about 100 or more of them either in hand or online,,,,But this one made my heart stop and then raced to about 200 beats per second,,,,,I guess some of you figured out by now that I'm a hardcore collector of Icelandic coins. This set of 1930 2,5,and 10K coins or as some would say medals have been growing in popularity over the last 10 years or so. I had a few sets in my collection since then,,,and they have grown in value from $225 as listed in Krause ten years ago to where I have seen them sell at auctions for up to $750 dollars. They are still maintaining such high prices in high grades,,,,,,more then I can say for the rest of the Icelandic coins,,,,but I have noticed a increase in coins from the Kingdom Era 1922 to 1942 that people have sent to one of the TPG services. Well here is a picture of this beauitful 1930 10 Kronur that I stole from the internet,,,,,Don't tell anyone
Yours really looks nice,,,,,,It looks like yours has some toning too. You will find many of these 10 Kronurs that have been dipped,, some more then others ,,,,,,Whats nice about yours is that it looks totally oringnal and with out all the black toning you see on some of them. Super coin,,,,,,I hope you find the 5 Kronur you need. Have You talked to Siggi about getting you one,,,,I will keep a eye out for one ,,if you like.
The "face value" can be found on the edge. Strictly speaking the three are medals indeed, as they have never been declared legal tender. Christian
