Dear CT collegues! This year I "was born" at CT and I am very glad to post my first thread at end of the "old" year with the best wishes to all for New Year! This my top 2016 list is a narrow, but my lovely field of ancient numismatics. They all are electrum from the end of VI BC, Mytilene and Kyzikos. It's very difficult for me to choose who is number 1 or number 2, I love them all! But I'll trying to put them on levels. #6 Ram hekte from Mytilene #5 Athena head hekte from Kyzikos #4 Lion head hekte from Mytilene Three winners! #3 Winged lion with cocke head hekte from Mytilene. Cocke now in favor - this is a chineese symbol of 2017 #2 Winged boar (pigasus) from Kyzikos with a full stater weight #1 L&B hekte from Mytilene. Lustrous and shining. Very beautiful with my lovely motive.
Beautiful pieces. I have really enjoyed your postings and comments since you have joined CT! I have a lot of Modern Gold, and have dipped my toe in the water with Carthage EL and AV, as well as an Ottoman Sultani. I plan to explore the Greek Hektes in 2017...
Wonderful examples !!!! Huge congrats!!! I especially love the details and artistry of 2-5 and then 1 and 6 tied for second This is my sole example---a bit worn but affordable and described simply as 'young male and female heads'; Mytilene, Lesbos:
Thank you All for your comments! My best "coins" wishes for All at 2017 year and especially for @Alegandron to post at the end of 2017 a TOP thread full of lovely EL from Asia Minor!
I have always liked the incuse rooster of #3 and being paired with a great lion makes this my favorite but the appeal of a full stater makes #2 hard to ignore.
Congratulations on an excellent year! I've always found the artistry on these coins to be stunning, especially the smaller ones. I'm often tempted to start collecting them myself.
Wow. Any one of those could rightly be the centerpiece of a respectable collection... and you have 6! The full stater "pigasus" is especially impressive. Thanks for sharing.
