I would like peoples input of what grade and price they feel these two British Coins are Please. (the tiny hair on King George III's cheek is lint on the scanner)
Just curious to why the second only gets Fine, I am still very new to coin collecting and would like to know alittle of how you decided please?
My estiamted grade is based entirely on the amount of wear the coin shows. It really has little detail remaining. I don't have a picture readily available of the particular coin but here is another from the same time period to show you what the coin would look like if unc.
Donn remember, them there feriners grade differently from us patriotic 'Mericans. [Translation: their F is a lot stricter than what we would consider a fine. Right, Doug?]
Many people believe that, but that belief is largely based on TPG grading. Take the value aspect of market grading away and you'd find that the Europeans pretty much grade the same way we do. Except of course they don't care if a coin has been harshly cleaned or not.
untill I looked closer as you have, I had thought it a very fine coin, ofcourse the lower end of very fine because of the full rim, sharp letters and felt that it was about 75% recognizable of it's origin. Hmm but now I see that with just a bit more conservitiveness and seeking out mint examples it is lacking more as you say.
Doug, While we're on the subject, typical British avg circ large pennies, 1860-1967 era.. worth next to nothing, right? I bought 67 of em today for 10c each, couldn't say no
