I'll start with images of the subject example:

Crazy looking date but an attempted "mint mark" between the "E" and "T" on the reverse...

Attribution of the host coin was relatively easy due to the fraction and die crack through it:

    Ha S-192.jpg

It is the 1st time I have seen an 1800 S-192 altered into a "1799"!

But now the twist- have the coin in hand and it weighs 12.8 gms versus 10.9 standard for these. It appears to be a copper plated cast.

So a genuine coin was altered and used to make casts- actually a fake of a fake:D!

It is an amazing piece @ksparrow ! They had a basic knowledge; used the correct hair style for the fake as well.
