Hey all, I guess I am being chatty tonight, so I apologise. I think I am making up for lost time. ;)

OK, I am gonna try to make this brief.

My brother is a coin dealer. He runs a shop here in town. He asked me if I would like to help him at his table last Sunday. I asked what I'd be doing, and he said "You know, the basic stuff. Give people prices, answer questions, and watch for thieves. If anyone has anything you don't know, send them to me."

I asked if he was paying and he told me that he'd buy lunch, but if the dealers around the shows get to know my face from the dealer side of the table, that I would benefit in better prices when I go to buy. This I think is the better of the two, but free lunch is cool too, plus I get to spend the day talking coins and looking at coins!

Wow!!! What a day!! We had sooooo much fun. We did about twice as much business as a normal show there, and so my brother was very pleased. He told me that i can come work the table anytime, whether he needs another person or not and he STILL buys lunch!!!

Don't tell my brother, but I'd do it for free!!!! Maybe when I retire, I'll go and help him out all of the time. It'll be a nice way to spend time with my brother.

In the past I was a member of different coin clubs. From 1950 to 1955, I was a member of three different coin clubs in Ohio and helped out in all their shows. All the shows' member dealers AND visiting dealers offered me coins at 25 to 50% off! Same thing with the two coin clubs I have a membership with now here in Florida.

Whenever I visit their shops, I get the same discount offers.

yeah.. I guess it was NOISE. I wasn't aware of the name, I merely went to work the table. Were you there? Maybe you know my brother.

Although I collect, I haven't been as aggressively buying in the last 5 years or so. I really haven't been to a show in quite a while.I also haven't had the chance to purchase anything as I haven't worked in weeks due to my injury. I hope to be back to work in as little as 2 more weeks.

No, I didn't even look at the other tables, I was busy all day for the most part. I really wanted to be there to experience the other side of the table, and that's kinda what I did. Not to say that you can't go shopping when you're selling, you certainly can. I just wanted the experience to be kinda of it's own, ya KWIM?

OK so which table was the one you were at? I was there as usual. I go to all the Chicago Shows. First Suday of the month at Lamont, second Sunday at Countryside and then comes Itasca. Usually mostly the same dealers at all three. I usually sit and talk to that dealer Robert Griffiths in the center of the room with about 3 or 4 tables. Really nice guy. Across from him is JMS coins. Nice guy but expensive. I like the guy in the incoming aisle with all the books. Just a little on the expensive side but fun to talk to. Next time your there and if early in the morning, look for an old guy, usually limping, blue camera type bag over the shoulder, freindly, handson, intelegent and that is me. Try the Countryside show August 12th. Usually about three times larger than Itasca. Also, lousy food, free magazines at the front table, expensive coffee.

We were at the very first table. The first one in the hallway to the main room.

And as far as looking for ya...I will, cuz I probably will do it next month.

BTW, my brother is Dave from Pete's Coins in Downers Grove... but don't hold that against me. If you see Dave and or Pete, and you see someone who looks like Dave but skinnier.. that's probably me. Say hi if you pass by.

I haven't been the NOISE in a couple months, but I think I recognize everyone mentioned above. It is a nice show.

OK, I know who they are. I've bought stuff from them before. Not bad prices. Not great but not bad either. Bought a 42D/41 Merc Dime from them at that show. One of the guys there was saying how he has one of them but it is a fake. Nice people. Someday I'll have to visit thier store. See you at the next coin show.

I will definitely say HI next time I'm there. You might remember me as what got me back into going out to coin club meetings and some shows was my finding a few hundred of the washington dollars with the missing edge inscription (you might remember selling them a couple months ago). I primarily search through coins in circulation. It's amazing the stuff my son and I find.

i really enjoy working shows with my father. i like watching people go through the process of examining a coin, thinking about it, and then deciding to pass or buy. the serious collectors are the best to watch and learn from.
