Ever since Doug posted his version of this coin I've been jones-ing for one. But does the XVI make it worth $325? No way, right? Stop me people!!
XVI on a Republican coin is unusual, historical, and even controversial, but not worth $325 unless the coin is super.
Mine was $115 on eBay but Seaby rates yours as more rare. I would not touch it over $100 but I am a cheapskate.
Aw come on Swamp Yankee...I'm weak! I don't need encouragement.....(but thanks, I'm going to offer less and see where it goes!)
I offered half. I'm sure he'll tell me to buzz off and then maybe the mood will have past. It is a tight flan as coin-buddy Steve point out!
It is a good question. Perhaps the coin is a scarce type but it is also a Roma head with chariot reverse of which most of us limit the number of different moneyers we need. If you want to get every type of Republican denarius and you need this, fine. If you want an example of a XVI coin great. I did and I bought a more common moneyer. For $325 or $165, I'd prefer dies in better condition struck on a more ample flan. I'd be happy to give the coin a home but not at the price. For $325, I want a type that shows something more interesting like Bing's Dioscuri /galley Fonteia 7 coin which I consider worth the extra money because of its grade and type.
Update: I came to my senses thanks to all of you and for sure, Doug! Now I have a reasonable add to my want list AND $325 this morning. I love this forum!
Hey, what a coincidence => I have $325 worth of magic beans ... a fine display of willpower, JBG (congrats)
