That being said, my congrats to the seller. Wish some of my own penny rolls had sold for that much. When I saw it, I figured somewhere in $20 - $30 range. Wow, was I wrong. Check out the bidding history. Ow. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ESTATE-SALE...50809686713?ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBUAA:US:3160
I looked at the timeline of the bids having been one of the up to $20 folks. When I had last looked maybe 4 hours before finish I was winning, but had already decided I wasn't going anyhigher, so I turned the PC off thinking I would either win, or I wouldn't. While I certainly expected someone might outbid me by a buck or two, I never dreamed of the actual winning price. To me that is just a crazy price. What is the winner gonna get? An $8 dime, a batch of very worn 1940s wheat pennies, one or two G4 IH pennies, and maybe a $3 civil war token or another $3 dime. Call it a lesson in how to throw money away. I would classify that as both ignorant bidding and perhaps auction fever? You know, when you decide you just gotta have it and the ego knocks out the forebrain and takes control of the wallet.
