Could anyone offer any information about this token ? I think it might be gold but have never taken it from the little insert folder.
Judging from the image (which of course is not a terribly reliable source ), yes, that looks like gold. And as you wrote, it is a token (or medal), not a coin. What does the other side show? Christian
This is the Larger Coin reverse I can't get a good scan but the words are IUBILAFUM EXTRAORDINARIUM at the top. Bottom had A.D, on the left and MCMIXVI on the right
The "background" is apparently the Second Vatican Council which began in 1962 (Pope John XXIII) and ended in 1965 (Pope Paul VI). After the Council, Paul announced (in an Apostolic Constitution called Mirificus Eventus) an "Extraordinary Jubilee" (Iubilaeum Extraordinarium) to remind of these almost four years. That jubilee was in the first half of 1966 (MCMLXVI). Now a gold medal would usually have the precious metal content indicated somewhere, e.g. "585" or "750". Do you see that anywhere? Christian
Both Tokens have some very tiny stamp marks on the reverse side but I can't make them out even using a rather good Mag Glass. Thanks for your help.
