This has got to be the most valuable coin I've found so far, and I'd like to get the opinion of the fine people here. Can you tell me if it's valuable? And what kind of error it is? I just bet none of you have ever seen a coin like this one!
I’ve seen quite a few of them, some even certified examples. Imagine how they get that thing in a holder (they don’t, they usually put it some sort of tube). And yes, they are pretty valuable.
They are called bonded clusters, multiple cents got jammed in the dies as it kept striking. I’m not an error guy, so I’m not sure if there is a different and more technical name for this sort of error.
bonded coins. these are very valuable. $8,000-10,000. I have seen 1 at Charmy The Penny Lady's table in Las Vegas. I think hers was $12,000 cause I think had more coins stuck together. Cool to look at. I am sure there are not many like that out there hence the huge price tag.
These types of errors, can't be released by the mint? So how do they end up in private hands? In a mint bag? But there still has to be some quality control. Something like this would be easier to spot than other things that slip through the cracks.
Nope. Not in Mint Bags They are collected by management at the US Mints.. Where they do what they please with neat items such as clusters.
Paddyman98...I wonder where the money obtained by mint management from the sale of these goes? Office Christmas party? Or are these just gifted to certain well known dealers/collectors?
I should of mentioned that my statement is just rumors.. I really don't know and I don't want to know. It's none of my business. But when we get to see such marvelous errors I find them intriguing!
