I have ever seen. Apmex fooled me on Ebay with a bait and switch, So I opened a return. I bought what I was led to believe was a original federal reserve bank of Minnesota Franklin Half dollar. The picture clearly showed a nice original roll. The title stated no date, but the item specifics says they are 1948. What I got was 20 white uncirculated 1963 franklin half dollars in a modern plain brown half dollar wrapper. Here is the listing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/141587531652?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT So I opened a return on Ebay and Apmex did not respond on Ebay however emailed me personally to ship them back and they would refund me within a weak or two. I wanted this to be done through ebay and I wanted them to pay return shipping so I waited 3 days and escalated it to a case. Ebay said it would respond within 48 hours. 72 hours later i get a email from Ebay saying the case is on hold until april 9th, then they will come up with a decision. Then they emailed me this. eBay Customer Support Comments: We need you to provide us with documentation from a qualified 3rd party showing the current condition of the item and any potential repair costs. You can provide this proof by responding to the email sent with further information. So, after reading this nonsense, i have to now call Ebay and scream at them. The lady on the phone says dont worry about the email, that is just a glitch in are system, they automatically send this out. I told her they should fix that, because its going to send a bunch of people on wild goose chases calling TPG's and sending coins in for no reason. She really was not interested in my feedback and said were working on it. I never knew it was this hard to return something on Ebay, I have a feeling APMEX is getting special treatment.
This is why I pay for eBay purchases with credit cards. I have only had to do it once, but the ability to do a chargeback is a major plus.
APMEX is undoubtedly getting special treatment, they're one of eBay's largest partners with entire sections of the site sponsored by them.
Item description says "BU 90% Silver in the original, unopened and unsearched bank wrappers from more than 50 years ago". So, since they are unopened, there's no way to tell what years they contain. Their mistake was to write 1948 in item specifics, but you shouldn't rely too much on that info. How can they know they are all 1948 since they are unopened? You should have asked them about this before purchasing.
APMEX screwed this up for sure but...being an unopened, bank wrapped roll, their header listing info was correct. They messed up in using the 1948 ebay filled in info in which to list this. A conundrum of sorts as they could easily say they are not responsible for typos and other same type errors. But I do believe they will take them back. No sense at all in trying to square up with ebay, they know nothing about coins and could care less. Better to call out APMEX directly on this and ask for a return authorization form, point out their mistake and ask for return shipping on your order. I also would not hesitate to mention the power of the internet in word of mouth experiances if they give you a hard time.
I deal directly with APMEX on their website. Just recently I made an error and ordered the wrong coin. I immediately called as soon as they were open. they cancelled the order right away. I had paid thru Paypal. I was then able to order the correct item. I read on their site they charge a $35.00 return or cancellation fee. They waived the fee for me, thank goodness. You might want to check out their return policy on their site, it could be useful to you. Personally, I haven't had a problem with their products. I have been extremely happy with their service. But you never know what the future might bring.
The listing advertises "original, unopened and unsearched bank wrappers". Since the wrapper you received is not original this is a clear SNAD case. Even if they were 48's I would be expecting a Fed roll like the one pictured.
Exactly. The end coins were blast white, not even the slightest toning on any of the end coins. Most importantly I was expecting a stamped fed roll like the one pictured.
What is it we say (tell people) on these boards about unopened/unsearched rolls of coins being offered for sale on e-bay?
This case is a bit different because we are talking about original uncirculated rolls. If they have the fed stamp like in the picture they truly are original, and in Brian's case we can conclusively prove they aren't because of the modern wrapper.
