I opened a strange penny roll at work today.

This morning when I started work I began opening all the coin rolls. I like to do a quick search through them all before I go to the register, and when I opened the penny roll, it seemed like a typical roll with a wide range of dates. The earliest date was a 1947D and the latest were some 2013's. But the strange thing was that there were SEVEN 1973S pennies. I hardly ever find S mintmarks at all and it's really strange for there to be 7 in a single roll and all from the same year. I am trying to understand how this would have happened. Maybe the bank somehow received a large amount of 1973S pennies and they mixed them with the other pennies before rolling them?

Yesterday at the local Stop and Shop I received some change and in there were 3 1978 -P cents, all of them in AU or better. So I put them in a 2X2 and put them away.

From roll searching experience the '73-S is usually the most unlikely to be found of all the 1968-1974 dates in circulation. I find more 1968-S cents even though they have the lowest mintage of the series - but they must have been better distributed or something. I got a 1970-S in change Portland ME over the weekend - been awhile since I have seen them outside of finding them in rolls.
