I don't know anything about it but it looks fake to me. As click and clack say, slightly modified,my opinion is 100% unencumbered by any actual information.

I voted no as well. It looks weird to me.

If you're gonna make it into a ring again, I say good- I hope it is a fake!

Please don't destroy a real Julius Caesar coin.

And that's cool enough looking that it would still make a neat ring.

I know you guys hate my rings but I preserve some of the coins my way and I like them ...and predict they will become ancient! IMG_3387.JPG

It's a type that was only ever struck in silver and the style is totally wrong. Probably a paduan medal or similar.

For the record, I do NOT hate your rings. I think the Caligula one you did was exceptionally well done and you have real talent as a jewelry designer.

I just hated that you destroyed (cut into a rectangle) a scarce historical coin to do it.

If you could make ancient coin rings that did less permanent damage to the coins, or if you used high quality replicas, I'd be your cheerleader instead of a critic.

It's not just the Caligula unfortunately. There are several mutilated coins in the picture.

And you have not "preserved" a coin if you have cut it into a rectangular shape to mount it into a ring, no matter how "cool" it may look that way. You have destroyed it, in the numismatic sense. But maybe you don't care about the numismatic sense.

I know the counterargument- I had some years as an artist myself.

Art can be controversial. And opinions can differ.

But put up a poll and see just how many agree with my point.

You won't get too much sympathy or appreciation for your art on a coin forum (especially one with so many ancient coin enthusiasts.)

It might be a different story on a jewelry forum or in the general public.

You say "these will become ancient one day.". Yeah, so what. So will the plastic bottle I just put in the trash.

Will future archaeologists or collectors say, "Wow, what a great ring?". Or will they say, "Oh, man, I wonder what 21st century idiot did this to a 2,000 year old coin?"

    Only time will tell.

I'm going to vote "yes" in this poll. Yes, you should use interesting replica or fantasy issue coins for jewelry. Spare the truly ancient ones, or use them in a less destructive fashion. Please.

It is a positive that Mr.Death cannot identify an obvious fake. Obviously this is why he has turned more fakes into rings than authentic coins. No offense, but I hope he never learns to tell the difference.

PS. There are three votes to buy the OP coin. One of those votes is mine, it will make a wonderful and valuable ring.
