    Hello Everyone,

I recently acquired this coin and was just curious about the grade. The subtle details between grades still baffles me.

    Thanks for any help.

I dunno, maybe it's just the pics but that coin just looks, I don't know how else to say it - wrong. It's looks like it's covered with little tiny pits all over the place. If it is, it isn't gradeable.

I thought that myself Doug, but I gave the benefit of doubt on the pic quality. They are somewhat blurry.

The image gives it a funny look. Better focus would help. Wild guess, AU something.

It is my camera causing issues, I have taken some more pictures with this camera with some different coins and I'm getting the same effect. I'll see if I can't get another camera and get you some better images.

I grade it Bullion. Today that would be $11.53

Or, you hold a 10x loupe against the camera's lens, and adjust your distance from the coin to focus in and see if that helps.

    That's how I did these.

I'm not sure if it's pitting or if it's a bit of graininess due to contrast. Either way I'd hazard an AU grade on this on.......'55 to be inexact. :)

Franklins are kinda tough to grade because they don't have a lot of detail as it is. A lot of large flatter areas. You can see there is wear because whatever subtle details they normally have are gone (bell details, Ben's hair, etc). There does appear to be some luster left. I think the wear is too much for a 55...or a 53..but probably not down to an XF. Thats why I went with 50.
