I bought this coin from my local flea market for 5 euros and i have no information about it because the seller had no idea what it is. It looks french and i'm sure it has silver. Can anybody help me?
This coin is issued by the principality of Orange, now located in the south of France. It was the heritage of the princes of Orange, which now are the ruling family in the Netherlands. This coin was issued in the name of William Henri of Nassau, who was better known as William III, stathouder of the Netherlands and King of Great-Britain. Titles are : GVIL(elmus) H(e)NR(icus) D(ei) G(ratia) PRI(nceps) AU(riacum) = William Henri, by the grace of God prince of Orange. SOLI DEO HONOR ET GLO(ria) = God alone the glory and honor. The principalty was annexed to France in 1672 by Louis XIV. Your coin could be 1/12 ecu or 5 sols. If this coin is genuine, you did very well for 5 euros.
Thank you very much for your help, it looks genuine, is there a way to find out if it really is genuine?
