I need help with a 1981-S Proof Lincoln cent

    The photo isn’t clear enough for me but a Type 2 is rarer than Type 1. The Type 2 has bulbous serifs. Hope that helps.

    Sal, you are not mistaken. That is indeed the less common type 2 mint mark for 1981. I just researched this for a ‘81 Proof Set I am gifting my daughter in Montgomery, Texas.

    The Type I is very heavy, blobby looking even. When you look down from straight above with moderate-strength lighting it looks like 2 mini-volcano cones staring back at you.

    Great looking proof cent. I am not certain about the price differential. My ‘81 Proof Set had the Type 1 mint mark on all denominations.

    @dwhiz …just checked…FMV for a 1981-S Deep Cameo TII in PF65 is $36.00.
