OK so this is a 1978 Penny It has Lincoln's head stamped into it oddest thing I have ever seen I have no idea what this means or what it is worth I could use any information you have Pictures of the front & back of the coin:
'A coin is a piece of hard material that is standardized in weight, is produced in large quantities in order to facilitate trade, and primarily can be used as a legal tender token for commerce in the designated country, region, or territory.' A coin would also have a denomination on it from the issuing authority/government. Your piece may be a 'medal' or possibly a 'token' or novelty item which appears to possibly have an Abraham Lincoln portrait on it. The portrait looks deeply embossed through the planchet with a deep hollow space from the reverse side. Correct? Can you type for us any inscription (words) dates or other writing that appears on the piece. That will help us check against guides and searches to precisely identify the piece for you.
Sure the front of the coin says In god we trust liberty 0978 and has D6 or D8 stamped into it on the back it ays united states of america has the building and ONE CENT
Then, I suspect, that what you have is something like what grilledporkchop mentioned earlier..a pushed out coin.
I figured but what would something like that be worth? I just found it on the sidewalk today and was curious about it
Yep, the U.S. one cent coin is pressed out with the Lincoln design. Authentic coin transformed to novelty item. Pop Up and Repousse coins
It's a novelty item/piece. I don't think it's terribly rare or very much in demand and being such, wouldn't command a premium.
