I am pretty new to the coin scene but have slowly been learning as I go. But I came across a few coins that have brought notice to me, one in particular is a 1973 d penny. It seems to have a crack of some sorts going through almost half of it on the head side but nothing at all on the back of the coin. Any help or opinions on what I may have? Ty
Hello Bryan What you have is a very good example of an error called a Lamination I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/lamination-cracks/
Here is a similar thread for an older Cent from today also. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1945-s-lincoln-cent-error.290780/#post-2644632
Thank you for the quick response and I will check out the attached thread. In your opinion do you think this type of error is worth any value or is rare?
No really big premium. It's a common find among copper Cents. You need something really major and eye appealing in order to be desirable and worth something more. For example this Cent that I own. I sent it to NGC to get it certified. Waiting for it to come back. (without the piece of paper of course)
Welcome to the neighborhood, @Bryan85 ! Don't plan to retire based on that coin. Listen to paddy. Chris
Even though the it has minimal value (as correctly stated by others), it is a cool find and worth keeping IMHO
With out a doubt a keeper. I like how the lamination has turned the corner. It has good preservation. Nice find.
Welcome Bryan! Nice find, love the Lam error. Paddyman, sweet lam! Here's one I found a while back. Enjoy!
