Hello, everybody. Its been a while since I asked for help. I have recovered an old Indian Head Penny when I was out Metal Detecting and the date looks to be repunched or something. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. 18951.jpg 18952.jpg

I think it's damage from being buried for a long period of time.

Do you see the 8 or 9 just before the 5.And you can see several of the diamonds in the head dress.

The normal 1895 date is there,
as would be on any normal Indian Cent.

    Any extra numbers/digits/etc that you
see are from the corrosion of the surfaces.

There are no extra numbers between the
    normal digits.

1888_cent_obverse_4_diamonds.jpg This is another indian that I have. Look at how the 8'S are different from the other one. And the reason I mentioned the diamonds is indicative of very little wear on the high spots which wear first.

I have just looked at 3 other 1895 Indians and every one of them has the 9 with a closed loop at the bottom like mine. Thank you for the comments.

Thank you, I believe that this coin was lost in around 1895. It was also very deep @ 15 inches down. I also found a 1909vdb about 12 inches down.
