found this roll searching. it has a thick indented line around the edge along one side (but on both faces) of the coin. it appears to be under the letters. i think it is a mint error but cant think of anything other than struck off center, then struck centered. i cant find much evidence except maybe the un in united may be there twice as well as the u in trust (which is smaller) maybe as a result of getting squashed back down? it appears to be thinner right about at "states of". i am posting too many pictures hoping someone can see something i am missing.
I'm no expert but it surely appears to be a pretty bad mint error, or pretty good. You can clearly see the extra line around the inner edge and the "oF" looks off. You're pics are almost too zoomed in. Zoom in close, but get the entire coin front and back.
It seems I'm always taking the wind out of your sails. It's caused by die deterioration. Not an error just a worn out die.
diggit, the area in question is deeper than the rest of the surface of the coin. i dont unerstand how a worn die would push deeper into a coin without affecting the lettering. see how it seems to go under the letters? i would have thought that a worn die would wear in a way that the area would be raised and affect the lettering as well. dont worry about the wind in my sails. ive been saving up a bunch of "errors" that i havent had time to get pics of. most of those i know are not worth it but ill post them eventually anyways. lonestar, not sure it will help but here you go
