or is this a token? The pcture of the obverse did not turnout so I will re-take n the morning,Any ideas of what this is?
Not a coin but a medal. The thing that looks like a cigar is a Zeppelin airship; then we have a boy and a girl with little balloons who basically say Good Luck, and the Zeppelin family's arms in the middle. The German text at the top - "Glück ab Graf Zeppelin" - literally means "Luck down, Count Zeppelin". Just as miners who work underground use Glück auf (in the sense of "may you get up/out of the mine safely again), in aviation some people use the contrary ("may you land safely"). The family CoA is depicted here for example: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeppelin_(Adelsgeschlecht) Christian
Have I mentioned lately that those photos are darn small? May be a technical issue, dunno. Anyway, with a little reading and a little guessing (German is my primary language) I'd say the medal was made to honor Ferdinand von Zeppelin and one of his airships: The text, I think, is "Taufe des Z 127 am 90. Geburtstag" (which means Naming of the Z 127 on the 90th birthday*) and the date "8. Juli 1928" in two parts. The 127 was one of the Zeppelin airships (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LZ_127_Graf_Zeppelin here), and apparently the airship got its name - umm, number - on the day that would have been Zeppelin's 90th birthday. * Zeppelin died in 1917, and according to the German article here http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/LZ_127 his daughter named the airship after him, on the day that is mentioned on your medal.
