I recently came across this bill and was wondering if it might have any value. i dont know anything about paper money.
Yes it has some value but not much due to the poor condition of the bill. With paper, condition is everything. What makes this interesting is it is a Hawaiian issue.
The BEP certainly got its money’s worth out of this Ace. Interesting note. Almost like someone carried it around, maybe to show to friends. Or maybe for good luck. It definitely has value above face value.
You have a world war II issue, the Hawaii overprint - brown seal. In 1942 they were specially introduced in Hawaii as an economic defense against a possible Japanese invasion. If the notes were to fall into enemy hands they could have been isolated easily and declared valueless. The condition you have there is very very poor. If I were you I would just keep it for the history behind it.
It's ok What it really looks like is a $1.00 bill Hawaii issue that was kept in someone's wallet for many decades. Probably passed from father to son and it became the condition it is in. My father kept $2.00 bills for many years in his wallet for good luck.. They looked like that when he gave them over to me
This bill probably meant something to the person who owned it and carried it around for 50+ years. Maybe it was someone who was stationed in Hawaii in WW2. It's still a keeper although there's really no value ($2?) because this could get the lowest grade I have ever seen.
This bill has nothing to do with Japan. I could agree that it would be more appropriate to say it survived Pearl Harbor. It has HAWAII on the bill.
The Hawaii overprint notes were not issued until January 1942. They were issued on the ships in Tokyo Bay at the surrender. So there is no chance it was at Pearl Harbor during the attack. And saying it has nothing to with with Japan may not be corect either.
