Actually, I purchased two that I so fell in love with because of the subject matter. I will follow the lead of @lordmarcovan and won't post photographs of them before I have them in my hand. I did due diligence on the seller and don't expect a problem on that front. The coins did not cost very much. I saw a coin that had a price tag of $37,500!! My heart is beating fast and hard. I am anxious to see the coins up close and personal. I wonder what you guys will think when photographs of them are posted here. Just promise you won't laugh - too much!?! Puleeeze?
Nice. All through my years of "collecting" whatever it was that I was collecting, I would never "show it" until it was in hand. Must be a collector thing.
i posted a pic of a coin i didn't have yet and when i went to remove it from the window container TO take pics of it, IT BROKE... true story..
Oh! I imagine there will be a bit of ridiculing. Not to worry. I can take it. I will have deserved it because, no doubt, I made these purchases before I was sufficiently educated to do so with confidence. In any event, it will be fun.
there's no one on here that i'm aware of that would do such a thing as ridicule anyone about anything they post. if you asked for opinions or info, they'll give you some of that, but when we joke and go on about stuff, it's not done to hurt feelings or make anyone look bad and "if" anyone ever did, they would be ostracized by the rest of group
Really??? I see people get ridiculed all the time. Especially if you are new and just asking a question, or use the wrong term or think you may have something special but through inexperience you don't. There are a few on this site that will take the occasion to put you your place.
I'm going to have to disagree with you. The members who regularly post in the Ancients sub-forum tend to treat each other with respect. Not sure where you're getting this "wrong term" or whatever but the people here try to help.
That may be true in some corners of the site but this is the ancients group we are talking about and we don't do that here. This group is made up of the nicest and most knowledgeable numismatist and history collectors on the planet IMHO. My first ancient coin was no looker @LaCointessa (see below) but I still love it and have posted it more than once and got nothing but cudos for it. Welcome to CT Ancients. My first ancient You're going to get hooked
Are you kidding @Curtisimo ? Your first coin is beautiful! Silver, huh? The coins I purchased today are bronze. I did not see the portrait I wanted in silver. (I think it is also called 'portrait' when it's on the reverse of the coin?) But that hunt will be great fun. And I have been hooked on coins for some time. But never thought about ancients. I would prefer to liquidate my current cent collection (except for the best specimens) and concentrate on fewer coins where I can learn more of the history behind them. I find I am enjoying reading the history of the time of the ancient coins more than searching for wheats or errors in a roll of cents. Perhaps I was getting bored with that. Plus, I have a nose like a bloodhound and I do not like the smell of pennies (oops, cents). I would like to get them out of my home. They have a raw rainy day metal smell that I find offensive. Is that strange? Has anyone else experienced that? Perhaps that is a question better suited to the threads about US cents. To everyone here: I will be asking for the opinions of this group and I hope you won't pull your punches. How else will I learn? @Jwt708 -Aaarrrghhhhh!!!! Noooooo! @chrsmat71 - Lol - so cute. But it will be some days before they arrive. @Truble - I take correction well. I'm rather used to it. I think I know where my place is, pretty much. Thanks everyone!
