Yeah - if the serial number was A00000001A it would be one of the very first, but yours is probably somewhere in the 31,326,389 range. ~AJ
The Mint doesn't make notes, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP - they also print stamps) does. Both are under the Treasury Department, but are run seperately of each other. Personally, I think the BEP is a better outfit. The Mint tries to avoid creating collectables by accident (DD, mules, etc.). Creating collectables intentionally (commemoratives) is very much in their plans. We have to remember (we as collectors can sometimes forget it) that the primary job of the Mint and the BEP is to create coins and currency for commerce.
