    Hey,

I have a few coins and bills. One is a 1951 50 cent peice with a picture of benjamin franklin on it. It has no mint mark, such as a D or an S. And it is not made of what normal coins are made of. It tarnishes like silver and makes a different, more full sound when it is struck. It is definitely different. I also have two ten dollar bills that are printed wrong. One, the back is printed extremely close to the edge of the bill, but the front is normal. And the other one, the back is printed crooked so that the printing is actually off the bill in the upper left hand corner, but the front is printed normally. I was just wondering if anyone knows if these are worth something, or how I might find out if they are worth something- what sight I might go to to find out, things like that. Please get back to me soon. Thanks.

US 50 cent pieces were minted of silver through 1964 and then were silver clad (copper core) through 1970.

I can't help you much with the bills but I would expect that the latter bill is worth something. The first bill is iffy.

i agree with WaA140 , also if it is a franklin half dollar the mint mark is on the reverse at the top of the bell , this coin should in fact be 90% silver if i'm not mistaken. value could range from face to a few bucks depending on the cond. of the coin............. and on the $10. notes would have to see these , depending on the series/year and degree of offsets could also be worth a small premium !! hope this may have helped you and as GD would say if you don't have or haven't already go out and get yourself a 2005 REDBOOK on coins or another there are a few out there and there is one for U.S. CURRENCY also !!

    Thanks alot!!!!

    Hey,

Thanks WaA140 and Grim Reaper. Is there any sight or place where I can E-mail and find out anything more about these coins and bills?
As for the Franklin half dollar, there is No mint mark. No letter above the bell, beside the bell, under the bell or on the bell. There is on the other hand, right next to the bell, a small eagle insignia. I don't know if that is a regular marking for the coin, or a special mint mark. Maybe y'all might be able to tell me.
As for the bill, I work at a retail store and occasionally at a cash register, and these bills were off enough for me to notice the minute they came into my hands. That may not be much to a seasoned money handler such as a bank person or something, but I haven't handled money, day in day out most of my life, and I could still tell these were screwed up.
Thanks again, and if anyone else has any insights as to the coins or bills I described in my first post, let me know, I welcome all the help I can get, and now that I'm on to this forum thing, I'm beginning to enjoy it. Thanks again. Dr. Pain

    Hey,

Thanks Alot GDJMSP!!! I'm glad I found a sight where everyone knows what they're talking about. I think I've found out all I can about the coins. Now about the Ten dollar bill. I'll get a picture of it on here if I can figure out how. I have a scanner. Now how do I get a picture of the bill onto this sight with my thread??? Any help would be welcome. In case anyone doesn't remember, it is a ten dollar bill, and the front is printed crooked. The back is normal, but the front is printed so that the left hand upper corner is going off the bill itself. I think I might have gotten it turned around in my first thread and said it was the back that was crooked, but I looked at it again today and it is the front that is crooked, not the back. Well, thanks alot. Any help is Welcome!!

The pics will really help us alot if you can get them posted!...........go to post reply and use the Manage Attachments bar under Attcch Files (at the bottom left of screen) and just follow directions providing it's not to big of a file (100kb or less I think) it should upload !!! If that doesn't work i'm sure GD or someone else will be happy to help you out ! ;)

    Thanks Alot,

Right now my scanner isn't working. I am going to take a picture of the coins and bills with my digital camera, but then I have to wait until the disc fills up so I can finalize it and put the pictures into the computer. Thanks again, and I'll get the pictures as soon as possible.

Welcome to the forum Doc. Are you Doogie Howser's younger brother?

I don't see where anyone else mentioned it, so I'll let you know that your Frankie was minted in Philadelphia.

You see, back in olden times when I was young, dinosaurs roamed the earth, half-dollars actually circulated, and clad coins hadn't been invented, with only one short-term exception, the coins minted in Philadelphia had no mint mark.

    Maybe some more coins

    Hey everyone,

I still haven't been able to get a picture of that bill yet, but I have some more coins I wanted to ask about. Most of them I don't think would be worth anything, but oh well. I have two half dollars. One from 1974 and one from 1977. Then I have a 1942 wheat penny, and a 1951 wheat penny. I didn't think any of them were worth anything, but if y'all can tell me different I'd be happy. One more I also found at my job is a 1989 Deutsche Mark. I'd never seen one before, so I thought it might be worth something, but I also thought marks were normal coins in Germany. If y'all can give me any insights, or anything, let me know. Oh, and, How do you do those smiley things on your forums?

Unless the coins you ask about are high grade uncirculated - no, they're not worth much.

As for the smiley icons - when making a post you should see a little box with smileys on the right. When you want to add one - just click on it. If you don't see the box of smileys then you need to change your settings. Go to User CP ( link is found on the top left of every page ). Once there click on Edit Options - again on the left - then scroll to the bottom of the page - the very last setting called Message Editor Interface - see the scroll box on the right - you want it to say Standard Editor - Extra Formatting Controls. Then click on Save Changes - you're all set.

 So, The Deutche Mark Probably isn't worth anything. I didn't know if it was from a year in which something special was happening in Germany or anything, and I wasn't sure if it was a highly rare or uncirculated coin, because I'd never seen one before. Oh well. Thanks for the info too. Talk to y'all later. Bye!!!

    Hello again everyone!!!

    Heya eveyrone, :D

I finally got a picture of the ten dollar bill. I'm a procrastinator so it took a while to figure out what I was doing, but I got it. I'm going to see if I can post it on the paper money thread. If y'all want to see it, look there. That is if I can figure out how to get the picture on the thread post.
