During my "sabbatical' I kept in contact with a few different CT members, notably TIF. She was kind enough to advise me on several coins I considered buying. I had misidentified this one, but she immediately set me on the right track.

It' shiny black surfaces were hard to photograph, but for a R5 I'm willing to put up with a minor inconvenience like that!;)

As a bonus, it was only slightly more expensive than my Salonina! :cat:

It's a great coin. I'm a sucker for the visual appeal of the shiny black patinas. I think many of the coins that have that look have been waxed, which adds to the glossiness - or perhaps that's the sole reason for the glossiness.

Not super rare but rare enough.

I enjoy black toned coins, sometimes more then the rainbows that modern collectors fap too.

Lovely coin & I would welcome it to my harems anytime.

Me, too, more than a bit. On top of its general appeal, I particularly like the bold omega at the obverse left which is the big tip off of the ID and the rest of the obverse legend which is also bold. Now for the 'tough love' part: Since you went to the trouble of IDing the coin and labeling it so nicely, why not add an explanation of the obverse legend as it breaks down since it is not exactly a standard form? Of all the people on this list, you are probably the only one who knows where page 277 is and there is nothing wrong with you pointing out why that very bold obverse legend is special.

Ah ha, my theory was correct, it's the legend translation page featuring OC.

I won't be able to get all the characters, my apologies.

=Maria Otacilia Severa Augusta Mater of the Camps

Other legends give her title as mother of Augustus, or as mother of both the Camps and Augustus. According to Wikipedia:

"By the time of the early Severans, the legions offered cult to the state gods, the Imperial divi, the current emperor's numen, genius and domus (or familia), and special cult to the Empress as "mother of the camp."
