..from the year they stopped making wheaties til the years they took the copper out. These are all dug cents. Are there really any years and mint marks worth looking for in those year coins? I was thinking of dumping them in one of those change machine things but then I thought to ask this question first. Also, should I not do this due to the copper content in them? Thanks in advance. Jim
hi. i take it that you have only the years from 1959 to 1982 - Dug ?? I think so but i do roll searches for the varieties thru the Cherrypickers Guide The major years i look more at is 1959,1959D,1960,1961D,1963D,1964,1968D,1969S,1970S,1971,1972,1980 the biggest prizes are the 1969S double die then the 1972 double die there are others years i look for but these i mentioned are mostly in the Cherrypickers guide Snowman
"hi. i take it that you have only the years from 1959 to 1982 - Dug ??" Yep those are the years. I have the newer ones too but they are pretty much toast from the ground. Junk metal. Thanks for the info. The 1960 cent, doesn't that have a small 0 to look for? I remember that one I think. I will look for the other years you mention. I'm assuming they are of a little more value than the average cent? Jim
Do not get rid of them. The melt value for each penny pre-1982 is 2.3 cents. People want these. I saw $50 worth of copper pennies on ebay going for like $130.
i'd keep the 1959 and 1959D, 1960 and 1960D, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1969, and all the S mintmarked cents. just becuase they are the lower mintage cents, and they will most likly be looked for in the future. roll up the rest. :hammer:
That's damn near wheat values. I really don't want to go throuhg my piggy bank but it might be worth it if that's true.
There are numerous other coins of some value in there also. You may want to check out www.coppercoins.com The person that has that web site also has two books out on just Lincoln Cents. He lists all types of possibilities for every year.
Not to mention the shipping/Insurance costs on sending 5000 pennies. That person is paying close to $175 for 5000 pennies or 3.5 cents each.
