I have a1944 wheat Penny , says 19434 an strange markings on Front /Back. Any idea what they are ?

    I haven't the slightest idea what you mean by "strange markings", and I don't see a "3" in the date.

    I do see what you are talking about, however, I believe it was damage done outside of the mint and it happens to somewhat look like a three.

    Oh, you mean that itty, bitty little thing. I thought you were talking about a digit the same size as the others.

    Ask yourself this, "If this was a Mint error, where do you think that "3" came from?" The smallest coin made by the Mint doesn't even use digits that small.

    Mechanical doubling ( not a DD) , mainly the 9-4-4, due to movement when manufacturing ( that is the extra flat outline). War time, In a hurry
