HI i have recently been going through cupboards and found a silver 2p coin i have looked online and seen that one went for over £1000 is this right ?? mine is a year 2000 coin. many thanks for your thoughts Josh
Do you have pictures? Also have you weighed it? My first guess is that it was plated. EDIT- A quick google search shows that there were silver proof 2p coins issued in 2000 also. Pictures would help a lot in determining what you have.
Josh, are you trying to pull a fast one? This is only your second post since January, 2010, but despite that, you should know well enough that we need photos. Have a nice day! Chris
Hi all sorry if I have annoyed anyone I have no idea about coins at all but simply found this unusual looking 2p and it looked very similar to one on the Internet it's probably not though here are some pictures hope this helps sorry again for any inconvenience caused Josh
It deffinately is silver in colour not copper coloured here are a copper and silver next to each other hope this helps
Still can't tell with the pictures. Anyways, here is a completed ebay listing for a 2000 UK silver 2p coin. You can see that the weight should be 7.13 grams. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2000-UK-MIL...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Thanks a lot for ur help guys will weigh it at work next week on this coin some of the dots arround the edge are missing on one side does this mean anything ? Looks to me like it hasn't been pressed correctly
I just tested a 2000 UK 2p with a magnet and it stuck since it is copper plated steel. Does yours stick to a magnet? If it is silver it wouldn't stick.
Sorry guys havnt got a magnet :/ I'm going to my granddads shortly so I will see if he has a magnet there. But it doesn't feel heavy so may not be silver like you say Thanks again for your help
Maybe this would help? http://www.royalmint.com/discover/uk-coins/coin-design-and-specifications/two-pence-coin
Your value seems to be way off from what the completed sales were for this coin. Six each sold for the equivalent of $45 per in U.S. dollars? Your value would convert to $1498.00 U.S. Perhaps you missed a major difference between the coins? :>)
