I am new to collecting so sorry if this is a simple question but I thought toning deminished the value of a coin. Then why do I sometimes see coins that advertise "white cloud toning" or "peach toning"????

    Is toning sometimes desireable?

Yes, it is...depending on how it is toned...also, you have to mak sure it is NT and not AT.

someone should come along and elaborate on this.

Toning beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people will pay many multiples of book value for some toned coins. (I am not one of those.)

The first thing you need to determine is whether toning is NT (Natural Toning) or AT (Artificial Toning). There are several threads on CoinTalk that discuss this topic in depth.

Stainless, Shouldn't you be in class?

lol, I only have one class on Monday and Wednesday from 11:30 to 1:00...

Philosophy, which I am already good at, so I am not to worried about this class....it is the other three.
