Welcome to the forum Loui! Condition or grade of the coins determines how much they're worth so I suggest you find a way and post some pics. That said, the Goloid coin is most likely a copy, unmarked of course but still a fake. JMHO. Check out the link. :thumb:There will be more members and opinions in the morning. Until then, don't sell or get rid of any coins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goloid
Good to have you here Loui. Like the others said, we really need pictures to be able to evaluate your coins. Some may be fakes or reproductions, but if they're all genuine it sounds like you have some nice pieces there. Get back to us as soon as you can. Bruce
Hmmm... all the coins you've mentioned are heavily counterfeited. As stated, you need to post some pictures, or take your coins to the nearest coin shop for evaluation.
I was gonin to say the same thing. All of these coins are available in large quantities from China. The quickest way for us to help you is for you to weigh a few. Most of these fakes are not silver. If you bought them from an Asian market, a flea market, orr the street, or similar relatively recently I can almost guarantee you they are fakes. If they aren't fakes these are all pretty pricey coins, especially the early US dollars.
It's very unlikely that you stumbled upon such a treasure trove. Every one of those "coins" is probably a fake.
I shall post pictures up in like 20 minutes.. As to how i acquired them, I did a job on someones car and they didnt have ALL the money to pay so they gave me a fraction of it in these coins.
A heavily worn but intact 1795 dollar would be worth about $2,000. Same for each of those two :goofer: 1796 dollars. A 1878 goldoid pattern sold at auction for almost $6,000 in 2007 That must have been one helluva repair bill.
It was honestly the change of a fuel pump but who I got it from didn't know much about them either told me they were worth a good $75 each and when i thought $75 x 10= $750 that would be a win but who knows... Also i took about 10 pictures can i upload with the same post?
The Goloid piece is extremely rare, as are all of the other pieces that someone gave you. Unless there are pictures, my best guess is that they are ALL fake.
I can pretty confidently say that I wouldn't take those in payment and you got ripped off, even though I'm not an expert... so I'll let an expert take it from here.
