i was going through my big box of coins that ihave to look for some rare date pennies when i came across this. i looked in my red book and found 1 cent and 3 cent but nothing 2 1/2. is this a real US coin. if so can anyone give me info and is it worth anything. thank in advance.
i found it on coinfacts and it says there were only 176,330 minted for cirulation. i guess this one of those once in a lifetime shoe box finds :high5:
can anyone hedge a guess on a grade for this coin??? is it worth sending out to be graded or should i just keep it in the raw condition it is now. thanks for everyones input so far
I dont want to turn this good feeling into a bad one. But 1906 2 1/2 gold Dollar pieces were highly counterfitted. Your going to need to get the weight, size and thickness.
You didn't have one in each Penny Loafer...did you?:goof: If so, then you need to look for the other one! In any case, it is a nice find and hopefully it is genuine! Frank
i am going to bring it into my local coin shop for them to look at it to tell me if it is real or not so i know for sure.
The Coin Values magazine gives a value of around $325 for the coin but it is hard to get anywhere near that for them! If my calculation was correct, it has a value of a little over $112 for Gold melt. If the Coin Dealer states that it is genuine and makes you an offer for it and appears too quick to make that offer, you might want to decline the offer as you could probably get more for it on eBay. just got from the coin shop. he weighed it and looked at it under a loop and he said it is definetely real. i was really stoked to hear that. now i just have to decide if i want to keep it or put it up on ebay so i can support my morgan habit:mouth:
