It is a 1973 D penny, with what looks like extra material on the 9. At first I thought I had found my first doubled die coin, but soon realized it wasnt a doubled die error :( Can someone help me determine what is wrong with this coin? DSC00022.JPG DSC00025.JPG

The high points of the die correspond to the low points of the coin. The egde of the 9 broke off of the die causing the lump on the edge of the 9.

The 7 looks doubled but better pictures are needed to tell what kind of doubling

Generally, it means the coin jitters when it is struck. And actually double die is a variety of the actually die itself.
