I found this 1964 D Nickel with engravings on both sides.

    I found this in my register at work last week, there's a "2" engraved on the front and a "1" engraved on the back. I doubt it's worth anything but I just thought it was interesting. The markings were obviously made with a machine, I just don't understand what the purpose of it would be.

    Actually, I think they were made with number punches. If you look closely at the right hand side of the base of the "1" you can see that the right edge of the column has been pushed slightly to the right. Whoever did this probably didn't have anything better to do.

    You're probably right. It's an interesting coin so i'll probably hold on to it.

    Like Chris said John, done with number punches. Interesting find in change but who knows why it was done. It could have been used as a game counter or something but probably just struck by a bored guy with a punch set.
