I am not sure if it is worth anything or not just something someone made out of boredom......but I was going through my pennies and found this coin. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what it was or recognized it. It is like a penny, copper, with and engraved diamond. It is has a pattern in the middle of the diamond.
I've never seen anything like that. What's the other side look like? I looks like it popped off a toy spaceship or something.
The other side doesn't have anything on it. It is copper, just like a penny and weighs the same. Yeah, the design is a trip.
Welcome to the forum Lastsoul. There are two reasons I don't think it's carved on a cent the way hobo nickles are carved: The surface outside the diamond doesn't look like it should if the design elements and legends have been tooled off The blank reverse.
I wonder if maybe it was acid washed until the design completely came off both sides, and then the etch was engraved into the coin...?
Living in NYC, I am constantly amazed at how much change I find on the ground.....mostly pennies, but I pick up 50 cents to $3 worth a week. Anyway, one such "penny" was an advertisement medal designed to be picked up by people just like me. So with that in the mix, who knows what yours is. My guess, based on the design, is that its a game token or some sort. (think Dungeons & Dragons type board games). I'd also say it might have been pressed (stamped), but judging by the pitting and swirly pattern, it was most likely cast. Either way, definitely not hand engraved.
I saw one of those once years ago when I worked on a galactic freighter traveling between Earth and Proxima Centauri. It is made of Narbidium I believe and the Keltarian people use it as a medium of exchange on Cygnus Prime.
No, it's used on Cygnas 3. On Cygnas prime the coins are pentaganal. Seriously, it's probably a computer chip.
