I finished my Buffalo collection with this - grade?

So, I finally got my last needed coin to complete my (non errors) buffalo collection. I have focussed on AU, MS coins, toned. Like most, I saved the most expensive key date for last, and was able to nail a toned one for a good price. It is not holdered yet, though I will likely have it certified with NGC. Anyone want to guess what grade they think it will get?

I started this collection almost 30 years ago... took a huge break, and picked up with the expensive coins two years ago. I also decided to move to AU's and MS coins, toned... it got a bit tricky at that point! It is the first real set I've finished.

By the way, I think it may go 64 myself. 65 would be a dream, but 64 would be simply awesome, and I think it should hit that. 63 should be the absolute worst it does.

Congrats on finishing you Buffalo collection. I finished mine a couple years ago. The grades don't match yours, but I atleast finished it in VG/F.

For that coin, I would Say MS64.

Congradulations. I have 3 complete sets of the Buffalo Nickels but all are in just F or EF conditions. Nothing like yours. Now that yours is complete, you don't have anything to look forward to in that set so if you get bored with it just pass it along to me. Again, congrads on a great accomplishment.

    One nice coin!
I'll be lucky if I complete my set with full dates ;) ....I think I'm working on the set as long as I can read what the date would be...even if its only the last 2 numbers ;)

I think your coin has a MS63...maybe 64....the toning is great!

Richard, that is a beautiful coin! I'd say MS64 easy. I normally don't like toned coins much, but holy moly, that one is pretty!

Buffs do tone up pretty! I bought this coin for untoned AU money, so I am thinking I did really well. I am really hoping I get a 64 from NGC. I should have the coin back in hand and holdered in about 10 days... I'll report on the grade.
I still have upgrades to spend the rest of my life on. Move AU's to Unc's... and I have a number that don't have the 'matching toning' that I am looking for. Never fear, the set will never really be done!
Although, I have no intention of filling the holes for the 3 legs and the 18 over 17. I don't even think errors belong in the albums... no matter how popular

    Hi,
I don't see anything detrtracting from the grade in the scan. It is common for these to be struck a little weakly and that is taken into consideration when these are graded. I think this one should be an easy MS-64 and maybe an MS- 65. NICE COIN!!
    Have Fun,
    Bill

You are right Richard, they do tone very well, and this one is proof that there are still some nice Buffs out there to be had. I'm also in agreement on the so called 'errors' or 'oddities' as I prefer to call them.:thumb:

    Congrats!!!

If I had the money to afford them I would go with the toned coins myself. Something about them just makes me fell like a kid a X-mas, who's just seen Santa for the first time.

Richard you are truely a lucky/blessed man. Keep up the the great collecting.

You could share some picks of all these toned Buffs. I for one love looking at them even if they belong to someone else.

    Good luck and God Bless.

Just to follow up on this. The coin came back from ANACS as an AU55! For the life of me I don't see any break in luster... there are no friction marks on this coin. I just can't see an AU on this one! What am I missing? Anyone???

Hey...I love the look of your toned Buffalo. Many times, I would rather have these gems over plain 'ole "white" MS luster. But that is just me (Look Left <-----)

I was holding off on the grade because I thought the coin had a "rub" to it. I thought it had some "smoothed over" characteristics that did not appear as sharp and crisp as you would see for a MS Buffalo Nickel. I didn't pay that much attention to it though because the eye appeal was first rate!

Just like some of those "chocolate-sheen" Lincolns that come back AU55, but look pretty as anything. Same story. Even with some of those AU's with a slight rub, almost the entire mint luster is still present.

    IMO...

When I first saw your coin, it reminded me of this one...but look at the hump of the bison and the other features such as the indian's hair detail:

    Both are knock down beautiful...

This is one of the best looking buffalo nickels that I have seen in terms of toning!I was guessing ms 60 with the weakness in the hair line my only distraction. what a kick in the head, I was hoping for MS 63.
