Well, received results of a NGC submission, but what did I do on coin #10?? I can't imagine I really submitted a regular 1960-D, but I guess I did LineItemYearMintMarkVariety/PedigreeDenom.GradeComments 0011960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 65 RD 0021960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 65 RD 0031960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 64 RD 0041960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 64 RD 0051960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 65 RD 0061960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 65 RD 0071960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 65 RD 0081960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 65 RD 0091960 D/DSM/LG DATEVP-001 FS-1011C MS 65 RD 0101960 DSMALL DATE 1C MS 65 RD :headbang:
I have a lot of respect for you - my favorite coin Collecktor. The next time I botch something up big time, I'll think of you! Seriously, it does make most of us feel better
I find it a little humorous actually. I can't wait to get them here to check it. I paid for the variety, and I wonder if it will have a little note, saying "duh" attached to it. So I paid about $20 to slab a $3 or so coin! If this is the worst that happens to me this week, I will be thrilled! I was quite happy with the grades of the "real ones" I received, so it does one good to publicly admit to a senior moment occasionally. Jim
Maybe they made a mistake? Did you think of that? It is possible that you got it right and they got it wrong.
Yes, that thought was the first one. However, the hassle to get it changed would probably be more than the cost to slab again after cracking it out of this slab. The other coin isn't lost, just here laughing at me not being able to slab it yet Jim
At least you did it by accident. There are those who would do that kind of thing intentionally... :rolling:
Did you ever get a different coinback from TPG?? Perhaps I should start a different thread entitled Did you ever think you got the wrong coin from a TPG? The coins mentioned above arrived and I got out the 1960D mentioned above and I have never seen this coin before. Now if you aren't a variety/error type of person, you might think, sure, you have a large collection, bad memory, etc. But this coin would stand out in the mind of any such collector if they had possessed it, and certainly if they had checked each coin before sending to a TPG. I do realize nothing I can do other than write a nice email to NGC, explaining that I think a mix up occurred. They will assure me it wasn't possible, and that they are sorry I feel that way, and I realize there is little else I can do. But here are the photos in SLAB: Obverse: with green arrows to things I would have noticed. "Cracked skull" and filled 6 SO in my mind I sent in a possible $250 coin, I received a $5 coin. I know this is a "he said , they said" type of situation, so I will move beyond it, but maybe I will keep my coins away from Florida for a while. I was looking for MS-64,MS-65 grades, and I would not have sent this coin in , even if it would have been the variety, as I wouldn't be sure they would have slabbed it with a grade. Anyway, I felt I needed to end the thread with the result. Thanks for your interest. Jim
Jim, Pick up the phone and call them (Monday obviously). You might be surprised how easily it can be worked out. I was utterly amazed at how easy they were to work with including returning a coin they had purchased and graded (65 RED) for me that I felt was RB. BTW, they agreed with MY grade for the coin I returned.
Thanks for the info RML, I will do that. I don't think they have received many of these in the past few months ( according to pop counts) except for mine. And for Bruce, here are photos of one of the coins. They don't put as much info on them as PCGS does, but it is a 1960 D/D RPM-100 ( in green arrows below) as well as a Doubled Die Obverse due to the small date die used over the large date die. I think every Lincoln cent collection should have one , but I am biased The strand of cardboard from the packing is not a scratch, notice it is gone in the 2nd photo. Too lazy to do over. Jim
Very nice coins Jim! Too bad about the last 1960-D. It'd be worth calling them and explaining the situation. It never hurts to try!
How very strange~ Just today I found a wad (about 30) of 1960 D's that Dad (who is 89 y.o. & still kickin') in the family files. I was curious why he had set them aside. Now I have to got check them out.
I called Monday morning, and the info was passed by Lisa ( I believe) to the manager, who is to give me a call back ( not yet). Their first thought seemed to be that it was unlikely. They were very nice, and so was I, but we will see. I will call again tomorrow. I also sent 10 to PCGS, they just came back 5- MS-64, 5-MS-65. I hand picked them to be the same for both TPG. NGC came back 2-MS-64, 7 MS-65. Close really. Just can't get a 66 Jim
Well to close this story, I finally spoke to a higher up , and he was nice enough to search the data base to see if anyone beside me had received a graded 1960 D/D FS-101, and there was only one other graded during the whole time my coins were there, and it was a variety request so it was that persons. So, there is no way I could have received a coin that I didn't send in. He asked if I had photographed the coins I had sent in, and I explained, I had just made a grading sheet of the 10, and the coin#10 that returned didn't match any I sent as to marking, but I realize they couldn't just take that, so they are crediting my cost of grading that coin. To me that is fair, as if I really did send in the bad coin, the other one is still here, so I am OK with the outcome. Jim
