i came across my coin collection the other day, i found a few coins that i dont remember having such as this one, i dont yet have a digital camera, but if anyone can help me out on this it would be a great help... on the obverse it has a picture of a guy with a hat and a beard and it says,cronebane half penny the other side has a picture of a shield and it says associated irish miners arms, and is dated 1789, there is also some inscriptions on the outer edge of the coin but i dont have a magnifying glass so i can't read it...i'm guessing it is irish...but thats all i can guess...and any idea of what it is worth???it seems to be in very good condition, especially for its age...thanks josh
would it be this coin and if it is the catalog price in the uk is £22.50 which is around about $40 dollars
I think this would still be called a Conder Token, although most are British. They were worth either a half penny or one penny depending on size, and were made at a time when the government was not making small coins. So, private parties (merchants, mines, etc.) made their own and circulated them as money. Just like Hard Times Tokens and Civil War tokens in the US.
