I have 18 coins on the way (a majority of them Liberty Nickels, with Indian Head pennies and Buffalo Nickels in the mix, all in pretty nice shape) but this is the star of the lot (and my first):
First Morgan? Hm. It's got a few rim knocks, and it wouldn't straight-grade at a TPG (third-party grading service) because of that, but hey- it's not bad. And, most importantly, it's a CC! I've been a collector for 48 years and only got my first CC Morgan in the last two months or so. (And have since resold it at the FUN show.) I've had Seated Liberty coins and a Trade dollar from Carson City before, but for whatever reason, I never got around to acquiring my first CC Morgan until this late in the game. Enjoy!
First Carson City Morgan* [] (So you and I aren't far off in that aspect, I'm looking to expand into Peace Dollars, Barber Dimes, Mercury Dimes, etc). This is my first Morgan
I think I saw that one pass across my screen. It's got rim damage but the price was extremely low. I might have bid on it but already have that year/mint. I'm guessing you got a pretty good deal on it. Carson City's don't grow on trees, congrats on the find.
Yeah, I just wanted to get my first one, at some point I'll get a nicer one down the line. I paid $150 for it so I don't think i did too bad, the same seller had a couple of other Carson City's with less detail and no damage for $126 and $130
Only “Saints” you might get in one of my giveaways would be a medieval coin with a picture of a saint on it, maybe. And I’m fresh outta those at the moment. Got three cool 1500s pieces with the Virgin Mary, though… As to Saint-Gaudens, I do have a new one I’m about to upload, but it’s going in my US collection gallery, not the Giveaway Gallery. I’m not in the habit of giving away $4,500 coins. I mean, I like you and all… but…
$150 for that one isn’t too horrible, I suppose. I’d call it XF details. Numismedia problem-free XF price is $192.
Glad to hear, because I had an automatic sniper bid set for $160 and i wasn't going anywhere past that
Generally, I'd prefer to go a grade or two lower for a problem-free piece, but that is a matter of personal preference, and if you're doing an album and have no intention of trying to slab it, I can see why you'd go for something with a little more detail on it.
Yeah there's no way I'm putting any problem free CC in an album lol. The next CC I get isn't going to come cheap because I'm aiming for a MS60+. Just came across a listing for a CAC graded 1884 MS63 CC Morgan for just under $450 obo
Funny, I just sold this PCGS MS63 1884-CC Morgan (non-CAC) at the FUN show. It was nice, but since I'm just a Type collector and don't really need two Morgans, I kept my MS66+ 1880-S as a type coin. As mentioned, that is the only CC Morgan dollar I've ever owned- and I only had it a couple of weeks. But now I can say I've had one.
@alhenry92 just know that "Morgans" more then any other US coin are HIGHLY addictive!!!... as seen below very hard to stop at 1 or 2 https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/414416/ https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/414414/ Oh and a pretty to look at Hmmmm how bout my latest the last of 6 varieties I needed to fill just for the 78s lol
That's the dangerous part, Morgan's happen to be my favorite American silver coin (ASE's being my 2nd) lol! Closest thing next to a MS CC Morgan that I'm buying for now is one of these
A definite CC Morgan unit those rim dings stop it from getting a straight grade. If you go for a Peace Dollar collection it will be a little on the costly side as the lowest price is around $30 a coin. Condition will add to your price but it is easy to complete. I have three sets and I’m only one coin away from my fourth set.
