Something just doesn't seem quite right with this coin: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1858-American...14&_trkparms=72:1294|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318 What do you guys think?
I don't see anything that indicates it's counterfeit. There's a color splotch on the back, and that is often a good sign. The scan is absolutely flat and shows no luster. If the coin is that lusterless, I would pass. As opposed to photos, scans often understate the luster, so it's possible the coin is better than indicated. The coin has a lot of detail. I would agree it is XF. It's missing some detail on the leaves at the top of the wreath.
I think the coin is authentic and the seller seems to have graded it right in the pocket EF45 to AU50 . jazzcoins joe
Thanks all. What bothered me are the dentils on the obverse. They seem a bit too sharp/well defined and standing out from the rim. But i guess it is OK.
It looks genuine to me, also a couple of spots of green on the reverse, so corrosion would be a concern
