I am having a very difficult time trying to photograph this gold coin. I cannot get much for sharpness, and the color looks way off. The coin in person is very different looking. -Is it worth much more than melt value? -Is it cleaned? (I have some graded cleaned gold coins, and they are shiny on the surface, this one is dull all over)
Looks a little 'buffed' to me. As for value, I'm sure some of the gold folks will be dropping by (soon) to comment. Welcome to the forum Doc.......
Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, 1854-O is a better date. Don't let that coin go for melt -- unless I'm the buyer!
Not a common date, however, with such poor central definition, it is definitely not one of the more desirable examples of the date. Also, if cleaned, as it appears to be, you'll likely find it to be a slow seller.
It is a better date and it is cleaned. Likely adorned a necklace or something in its life. Certainly would be worth more than melt. However this is one of those cases where the value is in the hands of the buyer.
