Hey guys, I purchased a lot of roughly 130 errors..some of you may know me for finding great deals etc. on eBay, hopefully this is another one. I've only looked through half of them so far and I'm beyond lost on what to look for. As of right now I've put (4) to the side that seem to stand out. Can someone please direct me to a website with various errors etc. I've noticed theres at least 5 coins with slanted 1's in the date, does this have any importance? The (4) I put to the side atm are a clipped 1947 which is probably one of the nicest wheats I've ever had, a clipped 1962-D, a 1962 Jefferson that seems to be missing "Cen" on the reverse, and a Jefferson I have no idea about.. i'll try to post a picture. Thanks! :rollling: I figured out the Jefferson must have been from a piece of jewelry
Other finds 1961 Pitted 1944 "Peeling" idk what that means Various cracked skulls 1944 Clipped 1944-S Double Rim
Zach, without good close-ups, I can't be sure, but the 5 coins with the slanted "1" may well be damaged coins. It's very easy for the metal to get moved (whether intentional or by accident) and we've seen many dates like this. As for the 62 Jeff, it sounds like it might have been the result of a grease-filled die. Chris
I hope you can find something better in the coins than these . the cracked skull coins you mentioned and these coins you have shown photos of don't have much value to them. the coin marked peeling is a laminated planchet coin and is quite common. the 1941 coin has a damaged date and hurts the value of it instead of making it worth more.
the coins with the slanted 1's are virtually always due to the crimping fingers on a coin rolling machine. Damage only, no value.
thanks so far, do you guys have websites to lists of errors? can someone please explain grease filled dies
when the recessed area of the coin dies become filled in with dirt, metal dust, grease and all kinds of other debris mixed together we just call it struck thru grease. this leaves the details barely visible or not visible at all on the coins struck by filled in dies. go to google and type in error coins in the search place and you should be able to find some good places to see error or variety coins.
