Does anyone know what this could be? The dime looks like a dime, but not quite. There is only what looks to be wear on the middle of both sides, but when you look at it, it's really not wear it looks like something else. I put it on a scale 2grams exactly. Which is not correct for a 2000 dime. Also I don't recall then ever making a dime that has a completely smooth rim and made of almost completely copper at that. So, as you can see I am baffled. Someone that knows about these or has an idea, if you would please let me know, I would really appreciate it. Thank you for you time! In the pictures, the dime in question is on the left.
Looks like the edge of the coin has been beaten (damaged) by a spoon. This method is called spooning and it’s used to make a ring. A dime is small for that so someone may have given it a straight edge in trying to make an error. What for others to comment. Welcome to CT.
I was a notorious coin spooner as a lad. Spooning is simply tapping all around the coin with a spoon. It takes time... A lot of time but it raises the rim and reduces the diameter. Drill out the center and you have yourself a ring.
Dryer coin. Happens in a commercial clothes dryer, it gets stuck outside the drum. Here's another example:
