I am a weak, weak man.

Strong will is not my virtue. I've been saving for nearly 3 months for this coin show coming up in February. However, last Friday my coin mind was restless, moreso when viewing cointalk. Saturday rolled around and I thought, "I'll just go to the dealer to see what's there. I haven't been in nearly 3 years, so it would be nice to see what has changed..." I brought a limited amount saved for the show...ya know...just in case. I struck out with upgrading the last of my F Mercs (no one has XF common dates it seems!) but I did find these three Franklins. As always, opinions welcomed.

A nice pair to my Type I:

A little toning, but it'll do.

What was the price on the 1950, may I ask?

    Nice Frankies.

Paid 30 for it. I didn't think that was too bad a deal.

I know how you feel. I got on the Goldberg auction last night at Long Beach and before you know I spent three grand on coins. But what fun I had. Those Franklins look great and anyone would be proud to own them.

I know the feeling, I had cash left over at the end of a show I went to last weekend and bought something I just wanted to look at some more.

Is that a big scratch under the bell of your '50-D?

Yes, I guess I should clarify: The "mole" you are seeing on the '54S is on the film of the 2X2. It's a hard bump of something I'm sure was from a grubby little finger. I just didn't want to remove it for fear of scratching up Franklin's cheek and will switch it to a new holder soon enough. The '50D that is gaining so much attention does have the flaw of the scratch you noted. There are also striations above the eagle. From what...not sure. The coin was listed as $35 and I said I would take it for 30 because of those suspicisious striations and the scratch. Still, the obverse is really nice, as is the color...great hair and cheek bone! So, it'll stay in the collection despite that horrendous scratch on the reverse.

The obverse of the '50-D is really nice. And that '54-S is a blazer. As is the '59 :)

I love the toning on the 50D. All of those are very nice.

Regarding your passion for coins and the statement "I'm a WEAK, WEAK MAN." Not to worry. You have lots of company.
