I’m thinking PMD?

    Good morning all
I found a quarter while searching through rolls earlier and noticed this one that although it looks ground down around the edges the words are still completely legible. My question is can these be ground down without the words being scrubbed away at the same time or am I missing something, google proved fruitless in my search lol. As always any ideas would be much appreciated

I think you will find that the outside text is INCUSE on the coin, so a lot more rubbing would be in order to obliterate the lettering etc.

Thank you for the reply, that makes sense. I will throw it under the scope a bit later to try and get better pictures and see if it’s smooth or scraped like I am suspecting

I think you are right on that statement! But it will give me an idea of what has been used to smooth off the edges or scrape away the edges. Thinking maybe a belt sander but won’t know until I look at it closer

Just altered deliberately after it left the Mint.
It doesn't matter how it was done it's complete damage.

I know it doesn’t matter how it was done and I know it’s damage rather than anything else. But again I’m still going to take a look as I’m going to get bored once I run out of rolls to look through for today lol.

It actually looks like it was ground down by a buffing wheel. All damaged.

I have a great idea!.. Spend some time looking at the thousands of other threads here on CoinTalk concerning a lot of different coins, paper currency and general discussion ;)

Agreed. You will learn a lot more by looking at other threads, by subject of your interests or random.
Also, familiarise yourself with the minting process and how dies are made, it will be invaluable info as you move forward. Bookmark the links for future reference as they contain an incredible amount of detail to help you.

I fully understand that and generally do some research first of all, I’ve found plenty of useful info on here since I started this hobby but there will still be times I am unsure so will post and ask questions if I feel I need to. If anyone on here feels as though I have not done enough research on my own maybe they should give a reply like yours expats as that is actually useful or not reply at all. Sometimes I feel this site can put people off of attempting to learn the hobby when snarky remarks are made to people less educated in the field. Whenever I have to train individuals in the past I have used tact as well as intellect when engaging with them, maybe some members on here should strive to do the same

Over all, I believe that members here are honestly trying to help and especially educate members and new collectors, but sometimes, we come off as condescending. Sometimes, it is meant and in others, they are taken out of context.
As you seem to do research and not just expect the members here to do it for you, I would ask that you be tolerant. You can always tell who is sincere after reading several different posts from the members. Learning isn't always a short road.
I wish you well and good hunting.

Thank you for the reply, I will persevere as I’m genuinely enjoying the hunt and although it may not seem like it at times I do enjoy banter so I will try not to snowflake and maybe count to ten the next time a comment seems malicious when it may not be. Thanks again

You are welcome. In today's world, sometimes it's hard to remember to just stop and take a breath. LOL

Glad to hear you some research in trying to learn. There is a ton of good information here but please, post what you have questions on. The snarky remarks you mention are because we are so much that is basic we forget that we once were learning. Just ignore those types of comments and stick with it.

Darren, post away and ask away! It's all part of the fun! Yeah some replies may sound a little snarky but just ignore them if they aren't productive!!

Maybe being prepared to be made into a piece of jewelry. The reverse is a very lovely design with the Island girl on it.
