Hypothetically speaking...

Let's say I knew a certain coin collector, who just happened to fall in love with Franklin Halves as an undergrad. As the years passed, he decided to upgrade the collection from AU to MS. More years pass and the decision was made to settle with MS63. Now let's say, just for instance, that a couple more years pass and this same collector is now looking back on the never fully completed collection and continues to be dis-satisfied---unhappy with a spot here, rim ding there, field impairment there and continues to improve on his collection. So, let's say he decided to buy a PCGS MS 64 1949S Franklin today....what would be the most you are willing to pay for such a coin?

    $150 regular MS64, $300 FBL MS64.

Ok. Now I, I mean that hypothetical coin collector, shouldn't feel so guilty about going over budget and spending $75.

Not at all. Especially given the hypo.

Come on easj, surely you would go higher than 20% above book if you were the one in the hypo?

I found one on Ebay I really liked, just happened to be in a PCGS slab, so I bought it, and at the time, thought it a decent price for all other PCGS 64's listed. Still, being out of budget made me a little nervous. It'll fit well....now about that pesky 52S....

Is it a nice looking coin?

haha well, "hypothetically' i probably would if i just liked the coin, or needed it to finish a set. i am jealous that the OP has a complete set of anything not even considering the ms 64 goal for his franklins he is after. i have an issue of getting 85% done with a set selling it and starting something different.

I think you successfully upgraded at a good price (the 2013 Red Book lists it at $95 for MS63),

I know what you mean. We just need to learn patience, pick up those old set and just slowly, but surely add to them until complete. I am going to do it with Lincolns (1909-1958).
