Has anyone else apart from me ever had any coins from this very interesting British Commonwealth monarchy? The ruler of the H.R.P.P. is none other than Prince Leonard, who has been the only monarch since the 21st of April 1970,when it became independent from Australia.
I've got 50 CENTS 1977 and 5 DOLLARS 1992 coins, the latter a commem honoring early baseball pitcher Albert Spaulding (1850-1915).
I have a few of the larger denomination (5 dollar and up) NCLT pieces they have issued and I have two full sets of the small denomination (5, 10, 25 and 50 cent) coins that they issued. consider the small denomination pieces to be legitimate coins because they were intended to circulat in the province. (I also consider HRP to be a legitimate country as well.)
Condor101,I have got the 1977 10c.,50c. & commemorative Holey $1 (Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee),1978 5c.,10c,20c.,& 50c.,& 1991 $5 (AH64A Apache helicopter - Desert Storm commemorative). The 1978's are a proof-only issue (which technically makes them medal-coins).It is the Holey $1 that really caught my eye when I bought it at a fair here in Wellington.
Here is a website link about the H.R.P.P. coins; www.imperial-collection.net/hutt_river_coins_01.htm . Here is a link indicating where the H.R.P.P. is located; www.huttriver.net/HRHistory.htm . Here's another H.R.P.P.-related link; http://huttriver.info . I trust that you will find these to be of interest. Aidan.
Giladzuc, which one of the Hutt River Province Principality's $5 coins have you got? Could you please post some photos? Aidan.
All,except 2 of the H.R.P.P. coins are now listed in Krause's Unusual World Coins catalogue. Here's a link to the official website of the Hutt River Province Principality; www.hutt-river-province.com Aidan.
Micronation or Cinderalla? I have banknotes: 10 cent 20 cent 50 cent 1 dollar 2 dollar in an official envelope. Here are two. (The coins of the HRP were the impetus for the Federal Trade Commission to claim that only a recognized government could issue "coins." Some people working for numismatic newspapers fell in line with this and that is why the "official" definition of "coin" says that it must be issued by a government. Of course, that begs a lot of questions...)
They must not really be a country, who cares what the FTC says. They do not have their own suffix at the end of their URL, only a dot.com, and that is what matters in the cyberian world.
Krisnaya Vityaz, the Hutt River Province Principality is most definitely a country,as it has a constitution,a government,& even its own armed forces. The Hutt River Province Principality is in the same catagory as the Republic of Somaliland. They are both countries which fulfil the criteria for recognition as countries, but are unjustly denied both recognition & membership of the British Commonwealth.A country does not need to have its own suffix at the end of their URL to be regarded as a country. The Somaliland Government's website ends in .com.You can find it here; www.somalilandgov.com . Mike, you are right to say that coins & notes are required to be issued by a government. The Hutt River Province Principality is an absolute monarchy, which means that Prince Leonard is both head of state & head of government, just like His Majesty,Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. Aidan.
Enough said. As far as I know, no country recogbizes HRP. Same for Sealand. Saying you are a country does not make it so. Just ask the 18th century colonists in North America. They decalred themselved independent but still had to fight a war (two, actually) before the Motherland accepted it. Having land and a few guns is not enough to earn recognition as a country. If it did, the USA would be about a million separate countries.
:thumb: Right on, there are quite a few countries out their in the Western USA, everybody has their proverbial "Own Private Idaho" There is some guy selling coins from some of these self declared countries on eBay. Even I could declare the land I own my own country, as Huey Long said "Every man is a King" or something similar. Maybe I should do that, and declare war on the USA, so I can collect reparations like the Grand Duchy of Fenwick did in "The Mouse that Roared"
Not many people in Australia have heard of this place and most think its a joke. The Australian government doesnt recognise it either. But I think its good and they should produce more coins.
Glen Warren,I have a friend in Sydney who has heard of both Prince Leonard & the Hutt River Province Principality. The last H.R.P.P. coin was issued in 2000 - a gold $100 medal-coin commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Independence.Did you know that the H.R.P.P. is the only British Commonwealth country to have issued coins of a $30 denomination? I have found the H.R.P.P. coins very difficult to find. Aidan.
It's been done, but it is very difficult to get the US to pay reparations sometimes see Conch Republic
I thought I saw somewhere that these guys actually made a few Conch Dollars and sold them. Actually they appear from their website to be having a lot of fun, rather than being too serious about it.
There's a book out called "how to start your own country" and quite a few conmen and women have actually tried, my favorite is "minerva" which only existed at low tide. The Hutt River Province is a tax dodge, a scam. Sealand is also, but is actually a bit less so, as it has had a war with the then West Germany and recognition by a lower British court. Three phoney countries: Monaco, the Vatican and San Marino, actually issue genuine euros, but that's more a political thing than a scam.
I will not venture the Vatican and Monaco, but San Marino has a very long history of autonomy and really doesn't suck in outside money like the other two. Even President Lincoln praised the Republic of San Marino in a speech in 1861 as one of the oldest countries in the world.
