I guess this should have been posted to the Error Coins forum, but I wanted a larger audience. I bought this 1867 three cent and didn't notice the error until I got home. Can anyone tell me what it is and if it adds a premium.
It appears to be a die crack that is getting ready to turn into a cud when that chunk of the die falls off. I don't believe it has significant value above catalog, but wait until the error people chime in. It may be large enough to make a difference.
There are no know varieties for the 1867 nickel 3 cent piece noted in either Cherrypickers (5th Edition) or Breen's encyclopedia
3 CN have a large number of die cracks. This is one from my collection, a 1865 RPM with a large die crack running through the RPM. Breen #2412. Jim
3 cents These have a large number of die cracks and die clash's. It is probably harder to find one without them in it. I believe it is a die clash (the image comming thru from the other side), because of the placement of it and image. The value is not extra for the die clash but you did well on the coin and it's probably worth twice what you paid.
