During the school year, my mom, who works at the school cafeteria on register loves finding great coins in her drawer. I gave her a big list of what to look for. Recently, she came home with a Silver Proof New Jersey State Quarter, circulated (mostly fingerprints/residue) but still and awesome find that only cost her 25 cents
My mom and I both notice how dumb the kids are with money. She says that they probably steal all the collectible coins from their parents, spending them for face. This one girl ona different occasion came up to my mom and said," this dime doesn't work in the vending machine". Apparently, the girl never looked to see what was wrong with the dime. As you might have guessed, it was a Merc. a 36 D. Common, but a good find
This is what happens when parents try to hide their collections from the kids. I started sharing and showing my kids all about what I collect and how they are different and should be saved not used as real money. Of course this also forces me to keep the bulk of it in the SDB incase they blurt out to others we have a coin collection.
